Living Well with Dignity: Palliative Care

Living Well with Dignity: Palliative Care

What does it truly mean to care for someone when curing the illness is no longer the only priority?

Join Dr. Issarang Nuchprayoon, MD, PhD for an insightful talk on Palliative Care—an approach to healthcare that focuses on quality of life, comfort, dignity and the individual wishes of patients and their families.

Palliative care is often misunderstood as care that begins only at the very end of life. In reality, it is designed to help people facing serious or life-limiting illness live as fully and comfortably as possible. It addresses not only physical symptoms and pain, but also emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.

Drawing from his experience in medicine and his work with Yuenyen Social Enterprise, Dr. Issarang will explore how thoughtful conversations, personal values and compassionate care can help patients and families make informed decisions about how they wish to live—particularly when facing complex or difficult medical circumstances.

Dr. Issarang’s work emphasizes that healthcare should not focus only on extending life, but also on understanding what quality of life means to each individual. Through Yuenyen, palliative care is brought directly into patients’ homes, helping people with serious illnesses remain comfortable, supported and connected with their families.

This talk will also explore the importance of communication between patients, families and healthcare professionals, including how personal wishes and advance care planning can provide clarity and peace of mind when difficult decisions arise.

Whether you are caring for a loved one, planning ahead for yourself, working in healthcare, or simply interested in understanding a more compassionate approach to serious illness and end-of-life care, this talk offers an accessible and meaningful introduction to palliative care.

Join us for an afternoon of thoughtful conversation about how we can live with greater comfort, dignity and choice—even in the most difficult stages of life.

Palliative Care Specialist & Speaker

Professor Issarang Nuchprayoon, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, and the Founder and Director of Yuenyen Social Enterprise.

He earned his medical degree with First-Class Honours from Chulalongkorn University and completed a PhD in Human Genetics and Molecular Biology at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.

After many years of caring for children with cancer and blood disorders, Professor Nuchprayoon became deeply involved in palliative care. His experience showed him that when a disease cannot be cured, meaningful care can still relieve suffering and help patients continue living with comfort, dignity and purpose.

He founded the Wishing Well Foundation to support children with serious illnesses and later established Yuenyen Social Enterprise, a medical service providing home-based palliative care for people with cancer, older adults and families facing life-limiting conditions.

Through his work, Professor Nuchprayoon promotes a compassionate approach that considers not only physical symptoms but also the emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and their families. His guiding belief is that every individual should have the opportunity to make informed choices about their care, live as fully as possible and experience peace during the final stage of life.
